Easter: a Time to Think Again

When it comes to celebrating, today is the most holy day of the Christian calendar year. I hope you’ve been impacted by the message of Christ this Easter weekend. But perhaps you’re among those for whom it’s really just another day. Allow me to encourage you. There is more.

I read the following words from pastor and author Timothy Keller recently and they caused me to think again how much we need the meaning and purpose that Christ brings.

“If this life is all there is, then everything will eventually burn up in the death of the sun, and no one will ever be around to remember anything that has ever happened. Everyone will be forgotten, nothing we do will make any difference, and all good endeavors, even the best, will come to naught. Unless there is a God. If the God of the Bible exists, and there is a True Reality beneath and behind this one, and this life is not the only life, then every good endeavor – even the simplest ones, pursued in response to God’s calling – can matter forever. That is what the Christian faith promises.” Timothy Keller

To be clear, that’s not all the Christian faith promises. But you have to admit, it’s a lot!

  1. Excellent post Steve. Purpose drives us to be better than we were yesterday. How wonderful to know there are some pursuits that will last. May we all carefully build on that eternal foundation that Christ has risen.
